Arthur LeRoy “Tim” Wilkey, 88, of Veedersburg passed away April 30, 2011 peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife Blanche. Together Arthur and Blanche raised two sons and two daughters, Jim (Sondra) Evans, Danville, IL; Bruce (Debbie) Swingle, Veedersburg; Marlene (Greg) Lighty, Veedersburg; Marilyn (Doug) Martin, Florence, KY. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Hardy VanDorn, Gordon VanDorn, & Lawrence VanDorn, and a sister Hazel (VanDorn) Leighty.
He was born June 15, 1922 the son of Arista & Mae (Rusk) VanDorn Wilkey. Arthur married Blanche May 9, 1953 in Rockville, IN.
He graduated from Veedersburg High School in 1940, and was a member of the American Legion Post #288.
Arthur served in the U.S. Army 5th Air Force during WWII in the South Pacific Theater as a nose gunner and mechanic on the B24 Liberator. He owned and operated the A.L. Wilkey Trucking Business, he had been employed by Chicago Southern Trucking Co. , Stone Bluff Grain, and was an equipment operator for Fountain County Highway Dept. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, traveling with his family, and tinkering on vehicles.
He will be dearly missed by his family.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am Wednesday May 4, 2011 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday May 3, 2011 at the funeral home. Interment at Rockfield Cemetery in Veedersburg with military honors provided by American Legion Post #288.
