Pearl Helena Goodwin Derringer, 98, of Covington passed away at 1:05 PM Tuesday November 27, 2012.
She was born to Lucy Ann McAllister Goodwin and David Goodwin in Silverwood, IN on September 29, 1914. She graduated in 1932 from Sugar Ridge Township High School in Ashboro, IN. She married Chris Derringer, her husband of 52 years on June 18, 1933, he preceded her in death in 1985.
Pearl and Chris lived in Lafayette, Pence, and then settled in Covington. Here they worked together in an implement business, tax & accounting, real estate, and owned & operated The Friendly Tavern for many years. Later in life Pearl traveled with her family around the United States and lived in Huntington, IN and Rotonda West, Florida, before returning to Covington.
Other family members preceding her in death include her mother and step-father, Lucy Ann Southern and Virgil Southern of Lafayette, and her grandmother, Cora Goffey.
She is survived by her daughters, Cora Lee (Joe) Meyers of Santa Fe, NM; and Sarah Ann (Roland) Duensing, of rural Covington, IN.
Also five grandchildren, Brent (Jennifer) Huntsman, Tulsa, OK; Jerry (Silvia) Huntsman, Huntsville, TX; Scott (Betsy) Huntsman, Terre Haute, IN; Jason (Mary Ellen Wheeler) Bunch, Indianapolis, IN, and Jessica (Keith) Wright, rural Covington, IN; four step-grandhildren, John (Chellie) Duensing, Noblesville, IN; Don (Cari) Koss, Fox River Grove, IL; Cindy (David) Plate, Wheaton, IL, and Ali (Sean) Harapko, Ashburn, VA. Seven great-grandchildren, 14 step great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild also blessed her family.
Pearl spent any leisure time she had reading and doing crossword puzzles. She had been a member of the Covington United Methodist Church. Psi Iota Xi, and Coffeenians. She also spent many great hours with her family.
On Saturday December 1, 2012 we will honor Pearl’s life with a visitation from 1:30 to 3:00 pm, with service beginning at 3:00 pm at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg, IN. Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice.
