Icy “Nadine” Sample, went home to be with her Lord at 11:35pm, May 8, 2013. She passed peacefully in her home near Veedersburg, IN, surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren. Nadine was born March 4, 1934 in Clay County, KY to Delmar Murray and Mary Jane (Greer) Murray English. She was a member of the Sterling Christian Church. Nadine’s family moved to Indiana when she was 11 years old. She was a proud 1952 graduate of Hillsboro High School.
Nadine married the love of her life, Cliston Sample, on Oct. 26, 1952. She is survived by her two precious daughters: Teresa “Terri” Martin and Tamara “Tami” McKinney (Noel), her two grandchildren: “My Babes” Jamie Ridings (Beau) and Jason Martin, beloved sister Bethel Schaeffer (George) and dear brother Edmon Murray, and many adored nieces and nephews and their children. She was adopted mom and grandmother to many more. She was preceded in death by her loving mother and father and by her sister Amanda Blankenship (Clyde).
Nadine was a woman of faith, family and many wonderful friends. She loved to read, travel, shop and work with her garden and flowers. She was an advocate for her community in many ways including: one of the first women on the SEF School Board where she served as President, years of teaching young people in Sunday School and watching them grow into fine citizens, Member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Indiana Farm Bureau Board Member, served on multiple scholarship committees, Girl Scout Leader, Fountain Trust Advisory Board Member, and Psi Iota Xi Member. She helped lead efforts to add vocational and swimming programs at SEF and to prevent hazardous-waste harm to the community she loved. She enjoyed the challenge of taking on problems that others would say could not be solved.
Funeral service will be 4:00 pm Saturday May 11, 2013 at Sterling Christian Church in Veedersburg beginning with O.E.S service, funeral will then be officiated by Rev. Gary Johnson. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm Saturday at the church and continue until the time of service. Burial at Wallace Lutheran Cemetery.
