Esther D. Thomas, 93, of Veedersburg, passed away 2:33 pm Thursday July 18, 2013 at the Waters Nursing Home in Covington. Mrs. Thomas was born February 10, 1920 in Fountain County, IN the daughter of Alvin and Vivian (Long) Ratcliff. She married her husband of nearly sixty years, John (Bill) Thomas August 10, 1946 at Centennial Church near Kingman. He preceded her in death November 12, 2005. She is also preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters, a nephew, and a niece. Mrs. Thomas is survived by her nephews; Joe (Peggy) Swinford, Pekin IL; Phil’s widow (Aileene) Swinford, Sidell IL; John (Karen) Clingan, Danville IL; Jim (Margart) Clingan, St Joe IL; Bill (Ann) Ratcliff; Bruce (Arleta) Breeden, Carmel IN; Tom (Sue) Breeden, Plymouth IN; nieces, Nola’s widower (Veit) Gustin, Sidell IL; Claudine (John) Boen, Oakwood IL; Ann (Don) Knee, West Lafayette IN; Mary (Richard) Shaffer, Bridgman MI; Valerie (Mark) Wood, Indianapolis IN; Marjorie (Charlie) Harlan, Brownsburg, IN; and special friends Howard and Mildred Kunkle of Veedersburg. Esther graduated from Kingman High School in 1937 and attended Business College in Terre Haute IN. She and her husband had farmed for many years in the Kingman area, and moved to Veedersburg upon their retirement. She was a member First Christian Church in Veedersburg. Esther was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, reading, and collecting antiques. Esther’s family wishes to thank Howard & Mildred Kunkle for the compassionate and loving care they provided for Aunt Esther for many years. Funeral service 11:00 am Wednesday July 24, 2013 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg IN with Kenneth Majors officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am Wednesday and continue until time of service. Burial at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to First Christian Church,Veedersburg.
