Carlton A. “Cotton” Miller, 82, of Veedersburg, passed away 8:00 am Friday August 2, 2013 at St Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette IN.
Cotton was born November 2, 1930 in Blytheville Arkansas the son of Wilson A and Ruby Delilah (Fields) Miller. His first marriage was to Willie Jean Robinson, and she preceded him in death. He later married Virginia Smith Houk October 25, 1968 at the Sterling Christian Church in Veedersburg.
Surviving family include his wife Virginia Miller, Veedersburg; five daughters, Linda (Steve) McLean, Covington; Debra Kay (Bruce) Swingle, Veedersburg; Carla Miller, Covington; Vanessa (Tim) Priebe, Lafayette; Mindy Ricketts, Veedersburg; 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Steve Miller; and a grandson Ryan Rainey.
Cotton graduated from Memphis South Side High School in 1951 where he played on the high school football team. In 2006 he was inducted into the Memphis South Side High School Hall of Fame. He was active in Golden Glove Boxing during his senior year and the following two years.
He was a member and trustee of the New Century Church near Veedersburg. He was employed for many years as Fountain County Highway Superintendant, and had been employed at Fauber (currently Milestone), retiring in 1992.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Monday August 5, 2013 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Joe Dodds officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon Monday and continue until the time of service. Burial will be at Mt Hope Cemetery in Covington.
