Lawrence Stanfield “Bud” Hoagland, 84, of Veedersburg, passed away 4:18 am Monday August 19, 2013 at St Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.
Bud was born October 14, 1928 at 300 N College St in Veedersburg, IN to Dallas M. and Grace (Gookins) Hoagland. He lived there until his marriage to Kathryn L. Uplinger on January 14, 1950. They have lived at their current residence since Sep 4, 1952.
Bud and Kathryn are the parents of three sons, Lawrence William (Lou Ann), Carl Wayne (Valerie), and Jerry Allen (Lisa); all of Veedersburg. They also have six grandsons and two granddaughters, Dr Lee Eric (Julia), Newburgh, IN; Brian Douglas (Adrienne), Carmel IN; Adam Wayne (Shannon), Elijah Dallas (Casey), Seth Austin (Tabitha), Johnathon Lawrence, Audra Jo (Aaron) Armstrong, and Sydney Rachelle Hoagland, all of Veedersburg; their fifteen great grandchildren are Cody, Mackenzy, Cody Jay, Ben, Noah, Emily, Ethan, Dallas, Skyler, Brailey, Laney, William, Drew, Ryan, and Elliot.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, James and Donald; and three sisters, Rosella Odle, Martha Ratcliff, and Mary Jane Francis.
Bud’s memberships include Sterling Christian Church where he served two terms as trustee; Veedersburg Lions Club, vice-president and trustee; charter member of Hub Nuts Camping Club, 1st president; Hub Club, 4F, and Telephone Pioneers.
He spent several summers at his Uncle William Gookins’ farm, worked his school years at Marshall Studio, and Veedersburg Floral. He was employed at Indiana Bell / Ameritech for over 35 years. Bud enjoyed antiquing and was always ready to lend a hand to his family, friends, and community as he was truly a “Jack-of-all-Trades”. His main love was being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He adored them as much as they adored him.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am Thursday August 22, 2013 at Sterling Christian Church with Pastor Gary Johnson and Pastor Joe Dodds officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday August 21, 2013 at the church. Burial will be at Osborn Prairie Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Sterling Christian Church or New Century Church.
