John V. Meadows, 71, of Veedersburg; at 4:23 pm Wednesday February 19, 2014 the Lord called home a devoted son, husband, father, grandpa, and friend; concluding a valiant fight with Leukemia.
John was born July 11, 1942 in Veedersburg, IN the son of Jesse Cortland and Edith Gertrude (Brewer) Meadows. They both preceded him in death while John was a very young boy and he was raised by Lewis and Mabel (Houser) Frye. He married Patricia Ann Crowder June 19, 1964 at the First Christian Church in Veedersburg.
He will be deeply missed, and leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Patricia Ann Meadows, Veedersburg; a son, Mark (Arda) Meadows, Hillsboro; two grandchildren, Emily Meadows and Jonathan Meadows.
John graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1960. He was employed for 33 years as a Welder & Pipefitter at Olin/Flexel in Covington until the plants closing in 1997. He had attended both Sterling Christian Church and New Century Church over the years. He was a member of Sterling Christian Church, and the F. & A.M. Lodge #491 in Veedersburg.
He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Jesse Meadows, Norman Meadows, Nile Meadows, and Tommy Frye; and three sisters, Miriam Zenith Meadows, Margaret Dunning, and June Frye.
John enjoyed nature and loved to spend time outdoors hunting, fishing, and trapping. He enjoyed working on his antique autos and traveling. He had visited all 50 states in his years of travel.
Visitation will be 2:00 – 6:00 pm Saturday February 22, 2014 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg. Masonic service will be at 5:45 pm Saturday. Funeral Service will begin 6:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Dodds officiating. The family will hold a celebration of life with John’s childhood friend Dr Bill Nickle in the first week of March. Memorial contributions may be given to American Leukemia Society or donor’s choice.
