Harry Guy Groce, 89, of Waynetown, passed away 9:54 am Monday July 21, 2014 at St Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis IN.
Mr. Groce was born August 2, 1924 in Hillsboro IN the son of Benjamin Harrison and Flora A. (Smith) Groce. He married Lois Jean Lightle January 19, 1946 in Cicero IL.
Surviving family include his wife Jean Groce, Waynetown; daughter, Brooky G. Brown, Waynetown; son Kirby S. Groce, Seattle WA; brother, Gene (Margaret) Groce, Hillsboro; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Lee Groce, Samuel J. Groce; four sisters, Gladys Cable, Francis Van Hook, Carrie Compton, and Martha Olive Groce.
Harry served his country in the US Navy during WWII in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theater. He lived and farmed in rural Veedersburg for many years. He truly enjoyed people and every aspect of life, it could be said that his work was his play. Some of his favorite pastimes were pitching horseshoes and hunting; especially pheasant and coon hunting.
Funeral service will be 12:00 Noon Friday July 25, 2014 at Waynetown Christian Church with Pastor Chris Lawler officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am Friday at the church and continue until the time of service. Burial will follow service at Rockfield Cemetery near Veedersburg with military honors provided by American Legion Post #288. In lieu of Flowers memorial contributions may be given to Waynetown Christian Church. Arrangements entrusted to Dickerson Funeral Home.
