Vera E. Pickett, of Veedersburg, passed away on her 80th birthday 12:25 pm Sunday July 27, 2014 at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville IL.
Mrs. Pickett was born July 27, 1934 in Sumiton, Alabama the daughter of Olin and Pearley (Robbins) Sandlin. She married William A. Pickett July 15, 1953 in Covington, IN.
Surviving family include her husband William A. Pickett, Veedersburg; two sons, Tim O. Pickett and Jim L. Pickett (wife Tracey (Lighty), both of Veedersburg; two brothers, Odell (wife, Ronna Lea) Sandlin, Mellott; and Terry (wife, Lillie Mae) Sandlin, Alvin IL; five grandchildren, Allison Pickett, Adam Pickett, Abby Pickett, Alec Pickett, Cody Pickett; three great-grandchildren, Layla Rushin, Benjamin Rushin, and DarlaRae Pickett.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Glenda McClure, and grandson, Jonathan Pickett.
Vera had attended the Church of God in Veedersburg over the years. She had been employed at numerous places throughout the community; most will remember her being employed as manager of the Road America station in Sterling for 12 years. Vera loved to bowl and enjoyed her many friends at the Covington Bowling Alley; she had held numerous offices there at the Covington WBA. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and also enjoyed mushrooming and playing Bingo. Her greatest love and enjoyment was her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday July 30, 2014 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Thursday July 31, 2104 at the funeral home with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will follow service at Osborn Prairie Cemetery near Veedersburg.
