Ivan Verne Cox, 86, of Veedersburg, passed away 10:13 pm Sunday December 14, 2014 at his residence with his family at his side. Mr. Cox was born December 3, 1928 in Nyesville, Parke County Indiana the son of Claude Earl and Sylvia (Martin) Cox. He married Barbara Jean Daly May 26, 1950 in Chicago IL, she has preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by seven brothers, Jack Cox, Gerald Cox, Emerson Cox, Don Cox, Wesley Cox, Bill Cox, and Darwin Cox; and four sisters, Beverly English, Ruby Derringer, Reba Pickett, and Rosena Grimes. Surviving family include two sons, Dennis G. (Karen) Cox, Veedersburg; Ronald Verne Cox, Veedersburg; a daughter, Judith (Russell) Lachnowicz, Crawfordsville IN; one brother Verlin Cox, Omaha NE; three sisters, Rae Ann Morgan, Veedersburg; Ronna Lea (Odell) Sandlin, Mellott; Reatha McClure, Veedersburg; five grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Cox had served his country in the US Army , and was employed for many years as a truck driver for Atlantic Richfield ARCO, retiring in 1989. Throughout the years he had enjoyed bowling, pitching horseshoes, and playing poker with his family. He was also an avid Chicago Bears fan. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Thursday December 18, 2014 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Tim Lyons officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday December 17, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will follow service at Cold Spring Cemetery near Veedersburg with military honors provided by American Legion Post #288. Memorial contributions may be given to St Elizabeth Hospice.
