Darrell Wayne Meihls, 79, passed away Friday August 21, 2015 at his residence in Oxford, Indiana.
He was born the ninth of eleven children October 22, 1935 in Yeddo, IN the son of Lawrence Earl and Myrtie Gay (Massey) Meihls. Darrell was raised and educated in Fountain County, graduating from Veedersburg High School in 1954.
He married Martha Luster in September 1955 in Fountain County, three children were born to this union, Gary, Linda, and Teresa. They divorced in 1970, he then married Connie Farren in 1971 in Bloomfield, IN; two children were born to this union, Darla and Deidre. They divorced in 2012.
In November 1967 Darrell was accepted to the Indiana State Police, where he served 23 years before retiring in October 1990. He then worked for the Benton County School Corp; and as security for Marsh Supermarket in West Lafayette, IN.
Darrell enjoyed golf, fishing, most sports, St Louis Cardinals, an avid I.U. basketball fan, Indianapolis Colts, Nascar Racing (Jeff Gordon), and playing cards. He was an active member of the Oxford Federated Church.
Surviving family include a son Gary ( Alice) Meihls, Lafayette, IN; three daughters, Teresa Berninger, Huber Heights, Ohio; Darla (Charlie) Smith, Martinsville, IN; Deidre (Dianne) Meihls, Oxford, IN; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, four sisters, one grandson, Lee Berninger; a daughter Linda Meihls; and a son-in-law Fred Berninger.
Funeral service will be 1:00 Tuesday August 25, 2015 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Chaplin Bonnie Shoaf and Rev. Larry McMillin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service and 4:00 – 8:00 pm Monday August 24, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will follow service at Rockfield Cemetery near Veedersburg.
