Robert Eugene “Bob” Olmstead, 84, Veedersburg, passed away2:45 PM Wednesday January 20, 2016 at Williamsport Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Bob was born May 13, 1931 in Danville, IL the son of Lloyd E. and Ruth (Blair) Olmstead. He married Doris Jean Clift August 12, 1950, she preceded him in death October 14, 2012.
He is also preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Dunning, two grandsons, one brother and two sisters.
Surviving family include a son, Jeffrey (Donna) Olmstead, Veedersburg; two grandsons, Dakota Olmstead, Lawrenceburg KY; Chris Dunning, Franklin IN; two granddaughters, Tonya Dunning and Paula Dunning; a sister, Nancy Minzey, Bell Flower CA; sister-in-laws, Reba (Jim) Page, Veedersburg; Ann (Marion) Watson, Crawfordsville; brother-in-laws, Jack (Ann) Clift, Lake Charles LA; Don Clift, West Lake LA; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob attended school in Covington and received his diploma in 1974, the same year his son Jeff graduated. He enlisted with the US Navy in 1951 and served his country during the Korean War. Bob was an auto mechanic and had operated his own repair shop for many years in Veedersburg; he had also retired from the Operating Engineers Union. He was a member of the Sterling Christian Church and the American Legion Post #288 where he had been very active as part of the funeral honor guard. Most of all Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Monday January 25, 2016 at Sterling Christian Church 701 S. Sterling Avenue Veedersburg IN. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Monday and continue until the time of service at 3:00 PM. Interment will follow service at Rockfield Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post #288.
