Joseph Robert Riley, Sr., age 76 of Veedersburg, IN died at 1:25 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at The Waters of Covington.
Joseph was born on June 8, 1939 in Muncie, IN. He was the son of James V. and Lena (Hill) Riley, Sr. He was a graduate of Tangier High School. On January 1, 1960 he married Shirley June (Foley) Riley. She preceded him in death on March 30, 2006.
Joseph worked at Olin’s where he met his wife, Shirley. He also worked at Carrigans Roofing & Siding, Covington Courthouse, Walmart and the Rockville Golf Course. He was also a self-employed contractor. He was active with the Veedersburg Volunteer Firefighters, where he designed and built a fire hose drying rack which was featured in the Firehouse magazine, and the Fountain County EMT. He build muzzleloaders and was a member of the Muzzleloader Association and appeared in the Muzzleloader magazine. He did oil painting on canvas and enjoyed hunting deer, rabbit, squirrel and bird. He also enjoyed fishing and helped cook and serve the Buried Beef in Tangier every year for the Covered Bridge Festival. He was amazing at woodworking and could design and build anything. His passion for the last few years was golf.
Joseph is survived by, children, Joseph Riley, Jr. (wife: Brenda) of Marshall, IN, Mike Riley of Waveland, IN and Rhonda Cooper (husband: Russell) of Veedersburg, IN; sister, Florence (Riley) Staggs of Muncie, IN; granddaughters, Erica Deboy (husband: Jeremy) and Ashley Roach (husband: Scott) both of Crawfordsville, IN, Kara Riley of Crawfordsville, IN, and Quintessa Riley of Fort Wayne, IN; great-grandchildren, Tobin DeBoy, Jacob Cooper, Jeremiah Cooper, Liam Cooper; and step-great-grandchildren, Isaiah Arenas and Laykin Roach. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, James “Jim” Riley, Henry “Hank” Riley, and Stewart “Spike” Riley, sisters, Judith “Judy” Riley-Boyle, Beatrice “Bea” Riley-Bush, and grandson, Joshua Allen Cooper.
Visitation will be at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg on Saturday, March 26, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Frank Sablin officiating. Interment will follow at Tangier Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph’s Indian School, 1301 N Main St, Chamberlain, SD 57325.
