Melvin L Seyfert

Melvin L. Seyfert, 84, of Covington, passed away 11:30 AM Wednesday May 25, 2016 at Riverside Medical Facility in Kankakee, Illinois. Mr. Seyfert was born February 17, 1932 in Henning, Illinois the son of Simon Otto and Ruby A. (Neikirk) Seyfert. He married Mary Marie Borst June 16, 1956 and she preceded him in death March 21, 1997. He married Kathryn (Hoagland) Hines November 24, 2007; she survives. Surviving family include his wife, Kathryn Seyfert, Covington; a daughter, Donna Hannan, Crawfordsville; two sons, Ronald Wayne Seyfert, Kingman; Steven Lee (Hanna) Seyfert, Lebanon PA; two brothers, Paul (Sandy) Seyfert, Covington; Carl (Sue) Seyfert, Dana IN; two sisters, Carol Owens, Covington; Karen (Don) Tate, Danville IL; three grandsons, Ronald Wayne Seyfert Jr., Andrew Seyfert, Caleb Alan Gibbs; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Sunderman; a brother, Howard Seyfert; two infant siblings, Harold and Donna Seyfert, and a stillborn sibling. Melvin graduated from Henning High School 1950 in Henning Illinois. He served his country in the US Army. He was a corporal stationed in Korea during the Korean War. Melvin and Kathryn attended the Benson Chapel United Methodist Church near Covington. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday May 28, 2016 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Brenda Burnworth and Pastor Paul Kirby officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon Saturday at the funeral home and continue until the time of the service.
