Ed Auter, 69, of Covington, passed away Monday June 6, 2016 at St Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette, IN.
Ed was born January 28, 1947 in Covington, IN the son of Charles F. and Edith Marie (Bodine) Auter. He married Sandra E. Martin March 5, 1971 at West Liberty Christian Church near Covington.
Surviving family include his wife Sandra E. Auter, Covington; two daughters, Robin (Gabe) Spezia, Westville IL; Kimberly Pelkey, Avon, IN; a brother, James (Judy) Auter, Lafayette IN; four sisters, Mary K. (Max) Woodrow, Veedersburg; Peg (Don) McKee, Battle Ground; Susie Linker, Veedersburg; Judy (John) Vanhook, West Lebanon; six grandchildren, Breanna (Nathan) Booe, Chase Minick, Alexus Minick, Charlee Spezia, Logan Edward Pelkey, Brooke Meridith Pelkey; two great-grandchildren, Henlee Michelle Booe, and Jep Michael Booe.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Don Auter, Jeffrey Auter; two brothers in law, Tom Linker, and Terry Krout.
Ed graduated from Covington High School in 1965, he served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War as a BT on a Destroyer. Throughout his life he had been employed at Little Beverage Company, Newport Ammunition Plant, and retired from TeePak in 2011. He was a member of the Cates Community Church and American Legion Post #351 in Perrysville.
He had been very active in the youth athletics in Covington. Over the years he had coached the Youth Soccer League, 7th & 8th grade football, little league baseball, his daughter’s softball teams and their summer league basketball.
Ed was a family man who loved his wife for 45 years & doted on his kids & grandkids. He didn’t know a stranger and would start conversation anywhere. Ed always had a smile on his face no matter what was happening. He was a strong and amazing man who was a rock to us all. He gave his time and money whenever it was needed to help out a friend or a stranger. As the saying goes, he would have given the shirt off his back if needed.
Ed had a rough last year with all his back surgeries, but his faith in the Lord helped pull him through with his family and friends. He always wanted to make sure that everyone knew the Lord & that we would all see each other again.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday June 10, 2016 at First Baptist Church 518 5th Street Covington IN with Pastor Dusty Woodrow officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday June 9, 2016 at the church. Burial will follow service at Mt Hope Cemetery near Covington with Military Honors.
