Carolyn Kay Purple, 74, of Veedersburg, passed away 6:29 PM Wednesday October 4, 2017 at St Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Carolyn was born September 23, 1943 the daughter of Munson and Helen McElwee. She married Gene LeRoy Purple April 16, 1965; he preceded her in death March 22, 2004. Her parents have also preceded her in death. Surviving family include two sons, Bob (Julie) Purple, Jamestown IN; Kevin (Lisa) Purple, Kingman IN; a daughter, Kelly (Marlon) Carothers, Ft. Lupton CO; two brothers, Bob (Gloria) McElwee and Jim (Joyce) McElwee both of Veedersburg; thirteen grandchildren, several great and great-great-grandchildren. Carolyn graduated from Kingman High School in 1961, and was a member of the Sterling Christian Church. She had retired from Steel-Grip in Danville IL after many years of employment with the company. She enjoyed crocheting, making candy, and taking care of her cats. She was also an avid collector of Indianapolis Colts and Coca-Cola memorabilia, and nutcrackers. More than anything she loved and enjoyed her many grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday October 7, 2017 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Dave Sims officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM Saturday and continue until the time of service. Burial will follow service at Mt Hope Cemetery near Covington.
