Anna Rose Smith

February 1, 1926 — October 21, 2017

Anna Rose Smith, 91, of Covington, passed away at her residence Saturday October 21, 2017. Mrs. Smith was born February 1, 1926 the daughter of Clarence Alva and Inez M. (Wilder) Strawser. She married Warren Guy Smith October 31, 1943; he has preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by a daughter, Rosa Lee Taylor; a son Patrick Smith; four brothers, and one sister. Surviving family include two daughters, Marilyn Bentley, Veedersburg; Patty (Chuck) Tolley, Covington; fourteen grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren. Anna Rose graduated from Covington High School in 1944. Earlier in her life she had been a very active member of the Covington First Baptist Church and more recently a member of the Sterling Christian Church. She sang in many choirs in the church and throughout the community during her life. In years past she had also been a member of the Home Ec Club, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #291, VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #2395, and was very active in Republican Party Politics. Throughout her years she had worked at both the state and county highway department, the Fountain County Treasurers Office, Grab-It-Here and Dime Store in Covington. She enjoyed playing cards, collecting rocks and geodes. She was an accomplished seamstress and had made most all of her family’s clothing while raising her children. She enjoyed cooking, both for her family and the local Boy Scout Camp years ago. More recently she enjoyed watching her daily soap operas; and more than anything she loved and enjoyed her family, especially her many grandchildren to whom she was known as Granny Smith. Funeral Service will be Thursday 3:00 PM October 26, 2017 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Gary Johnson and great-grandson Ty Asbury officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Thursday and continue until the time of service. Burial will follow service at Mt Hope Cemetery in Covington.
