Robert W. Kester, 82, of Veedersburg, passed away 12:15 am Thursday August 26, 2010 at St. Vincent Hospital in Williamsport, Indiana.
He was born April 23, 1928 in Yeddo, Indiana the son of Floyd H. and Iva (Bryant) Kester. He married Wanda R. (Songer) Hering September 1, 1979 in Danville, Illinois.
Surviving family includes his wife Wanda Kester, Veedersburg; two sons, John (Carol) Kester, Cincinnati, OH; Thomas (Yong Hui) Kester, Martinez, GA; step-son, John (Paula) Hering, Veedersburg; two brothers, Charles (Linda) Kester, Winter Haven, FL; Floyd “Butch” (Nancy) Kester, Hoopeston, IL, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Kester; step-daughter, Pamela Hering.
Robert graduated from Veedersburg High School in 1946. He served his country during WWII in the U.S.Army. He was stationed with field artillery in Okinawa, and as Military Police in Fort Lee, Virginia. He was employed at TeePak in Danville, IL for 38 years having retired from there in 1994. He was a member of American Legion #288 in Veedersburg.
He enjoyed many types of music throughout his life and enjoyed many different sports, his favorite team being the St. Louis Cardinals. He will be remembered by his constant desire to help others, especially young people.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Monday August 30, 2010 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 pm Sunday August 29, 2010 at the funeral home. Interment at Bonebrake Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion #288.
