Robert L. Keeling, 85, of Waynetown, died 8:30 am Monday November 15, 2010 at the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette, Indiana.
He was born February 15, 1925 in Veedersburg the son of John and Dora Lee (Payton) Keeling. He married Doris J. Cook February 27, 1947 in Hillsboro, Indiana.
Surviving family include his wife, Doris J. Keeling, Crawfordsville; a son, Ron (wife, Dona) Keeling Crawfordsville; a daughter, Marcia (Wayne) Homsher, Crawfordsville; two grandsons, Daniel Keeling & Branton Homsher, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.
Robert was raised and attended school in Veedersburg until his 1944enlistment in the U.S. Navy. He served his country during WWII in the Pacific Theater on board the USS Howard Gray. Robert and Doris lived in the Waynetown area for many years where he farmed, worked as a carpenter, and drove a school bus. He was a fan of IU Basketball and his hobbies included fishing and carpentry. He was a member of the Waynetown United Methodist Church.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Thursday November 18, 2010 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Rev. Dorman Winger officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am on Thursday November 18 and continue until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post #288 of Veedersburg.
