John Schmit

John E. Schmit, 73 of Veedersburg, died November 10, 2010 in Harlingen, Texas. He was born December 16, 1936 in Evanston, IL, the son of John E. Schmit Sr. and Anna (Siwek) Schmit. He married Donna Charlene Gannon December 21, 1957 in Georgetown, IL. Surviving family include his wife, Donna Schmit, Veedersburg; daughter, Jonna (Frank) Lowe, Ridge Farm, IL; son, Jefferey Schmit, Williamsport, IN; five grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and 4 step great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a sister Genevieve Brown and a granddaughter Kristen Salts. John served his country in the Illinois National Guard; he was employed for Preston Trucking Company for many years, retiring from there in 1999. He was a member of the Teamsters Union for 32 years, and a member of the Orchard Hills Church of Christ in Covington. Since retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife Donna, spending his summers fishing in Minnesota and his winters in Texas. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Memorial service will be held 3:30 EDT Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Orchard Hills Church of Christ, 1630 9th Street Covington, Indiana with Paul W. Wilcoxson Jr. and Paul Kent officiating.
