Adrian Houmes Jr., 92, of rural Covington, Indiana, passed away at his residence 5:51 AM Sunday January 9, 2022.

Adrian was born April 1, 1929 in Hoopeston, Illinois the son of Adrian and Mabel Grace (Eells) Houmes Sr.  He married Louise Wagoner August 15, 1954 in Hoopeston, Illinois.

Surviving family includes his wife, Louise Houmes, Covington; three sons, David L (Tammy) Houmes, Veedersburg; Bryan A. (Nancy) Houmes, Veedersburg; Mike E. (Laurie) Houmes, Cayuga; a daughter, Patricia D. (Lee) Kirkpatrick, Veedersburg; a grandson Kyle Ocheltree whom Adrian & Louise raised; two brothers, Carl Houmes, and Milton (Aileen) Houmes, both of Hoopeston, IL; two sisters, Helen Wagoner, Rossville, IL; Trudy (John) Woods, Urbandale, Iowa; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 7 step great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Janice Ocheltree, a grandson Dustin Houmes, two brothers, and three sisters.

Adrian graduated from East Lynn High School in 1947. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Throughout his life he had worked at Harrison Steel as a machinist, the Boat Factory in Danville; and General Electric in Danville, working there as a guard when he retired. He also farmed outside of Veedersburg, where he raised his family.

He was a member of the Sterling Christian Church. He was an avid St Louis Cardinals fan, he loved to joke around with people, and more than anything he loved and enjoyed his grandchildren.

Visitation is 4:00 – 7:00 (EST) PM Wednesday January 12, 2022 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg. Funeral is 11:00 (EST) AM Thursday January 13, 2022 at the funeral home with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Mt Hope Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post #288, and the US Marine Corps. Memorial contributions may be given to Sterling Christian Church or the Shriner’s Children Hospital. Online condolences at www.dickersonfuneralhome.com
