Bethel Mae Schaeffer

Bethel Mae Schaeffer, 91, formerly of Veedersburg, passed away peacefully 3:12 AM Sunday August 20, 2023 at Fountain Springs in Covington, IN.

Bethel was born October 12, 1931 in Clay County Kentucky the daughter of Delmar and Mary Jane (Greer) Murray. She married George Thomas Schaeffer July 28, 1950 in Veedersburg IN; he preceded her in death April 4, 2023. 

She is also preceded in death by two sisters, Nadine Sample, Amanda Blankenship; a brother, Ed Murray; and a granddaughter, Rebecca Jane Schaeffer. 

Surviving family include four children, Tom (Julie) Schaeffer, Veedersburg; Ron (Kathy) Schaeffer, Columbus, IN; Debbie (Jim) Scrogham, Covington; Donnie (Becky) Schaeffer, Veedersburg; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Bethel was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Covington, IN. She enjoyed raising her family on the farm outside of Veedersburg, and working in her garden. She was a passionate fan of IU Basketball and the New York Yankees. She enjoyed spending the winters with George in Florida. She loved to fish and would be quick to protect her productive fishing spot and just as quick to encroach upon an innocent bystander’s productive fishing spot. More than anything Bethel loved and enjoyed spending time with her family, most especially her grandchildren. 

Funeral service is 2:00 PM Friday August 25, 2023 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Kenneth Jones and Pastor Dave Sims officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 Friday August 25th at the funeral home and continue until the time of service. Burial is at Rockfield Cemetery near Veedersburg.
