Cecil Rex Smith, 86, of Hillsboro, passed away 10:20 PM Tuesday October 30, 2018 at the V.A. Illiana Health Care in Danville, Illinois. Cecil was born January 13, 1932 in Mudlick, Kentucky the son of James Ader and Ida Mae (Thomas) Smith. He married Barbara JoAn (George) Krug March 25, 1983 in Hillsboro, Indiana. Surviving family include his wife, Barbara JoAn Smith, Hillsboro; two sons, Cecil Wayne Smith, Canton GA; Ronnie Lee (Lila Mae) Williams, Scottsville, KY; two daughters, Janet (Gerald) Clawson, Crawfordsville IN; Belinda (Jack) Shumaker, Hardyville KY; three step-sons, Kurt Krug, Lafayette IN; Damon (Wanda) Krug, Lebanon IN; Darrin (Maggie) Krug, West Point IN; two brothers, Eagle (Donna) Smith, Pekin IN; Randall Smith, Crawfordsville IN; eleven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Lynn Fivecoat. Cecil served his country in the US Army during the Korean War, he was stationed in both Korea and Germany. During his lifetime he had worked for area farmers, for many years he drove a bulk truck for propane gas companies, and he had been employed as a maintenance man at Ingress Plastene. He had taken up golf at the age of 65, in his first three years of golfing he had scored two hole in one’s at Twin Lakes Golf Course; he was a member of the Turkey Run Golf Course. For many years he had raised Beagle rabbit dogs; he enjoyed both raising them and being in the field hunting rabbits with them. He had been a member of the Beagle Club that met in Waynetown for many years. Visitation will be 12:00 to 2:00 PM Saturday November 10, 2018 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg IN. Memorial service will be 2:00 PM Saturday November 10, 2018 at the funeral home with Pastor Frank Paddock officiating; burial will follow at Newtown Cemetery.
