Donn Russell Payne, 85, of Covington, passed away at his residence 3:04 AM Saturday June 12, 2021 with his family at his side.
Donn was born November 27, 1935 in Danville, Illinois the son of Ralph W. and Ruth Estella (Del Valley) Payne. He married Doris Taylor June 2, 1957 in Danville, Illinois; they recently celebrated 64 years of marriage. .
Surviving family include his wife, Doris Ann Payne, Covington, IN; a son, Donnie (Kim) Payne, Mulberry, IN; two daughters, Pamela (Ken) Scheer, Greer, SC; Julie (Robin) Swearingen, Veedersburg, IN; a brother, Dann Payne Palaski, WI; eight grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Ryan Scheer.
Living in the Covington/Veedersburg community for 52 years, Donn and Doris moved into their farm home the day the Apollo 11 space craft landed on the moon. Members of First Baptist Church, then Maranatha Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and they both served as long time teen leaders. To this day, many have reached out to both Donn and Doris thanking them for their voice of leadership, testimony and setting them on the straight path of success for our God and Savior. Today, they are members of Cates Community Church where they continue their mission of mentoring.
Donn was an active member of the Model T and Model A Clubs in the area.
He was a loving husband, Father, Grandfather, mentor, advisor, never met a stranger, business owner, farmer, jack of all trades, master of all, as he could make or fix anything.
Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday June 17, 2021 at Dickerson Funeral Home 303 N. Main Street Veedersburg IN. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Friday June 18, 2021 at First Baptist Church 518 5th Street Covington IN with Pastor Dusty Woodrow officiating. Burial will be at Mt Hope Cemetery in Covington.
