George Thomas Schaeffer

George Thomas Schaeffer, 91, of Covington Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 4, 2023 at Fountain Springs Assisted Living in Covington.

George was born May 15, 1931 in Mellott, IN the son of George and Elsie (Lighty) Schaeffer. He married Bethel Murray July 28, 1950 in Veedersburg, IN.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a step dad Garland Sams, and a granddaughter.

Surviving family include his wife, Bethel Schaeffer, Covington; four children, Tom (Julie) Schaeffer, Veedersburg; Ron (Kathy) Schaeffer, Columbus, IN; Debbie (Jim) Scrogham, Covington; Donnie (Becky) Schaeffer, Veedersburg; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

George enjoyed working on the farm, he was also employed at the Veedersburg Brick Yard, and General Motors in Danville, IL prior to his retirement.

He served his country in the US Navy, enlisting shortly after his 17^th birthday.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #288 and F. & A.M. Lodge #491 both in Veedersburg. He was also a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Covington.

He and Bethel enjoyed spending many winters in Florida, always looking forward to the fishing he could enjoy there. He loved being around his family and friends, but most of all he adored his grandchildren and cherished the time he was able to spend with them.

Services will be held Saturday April 8, 2023 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg, IN. Visitation will be 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM, Masonic Service will begin at 12:45 PM, Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 PM with Pastor Kenneth Jones and Pastor Dave Sims officiating; all on Saturday April 8, 2023.
