Gregory Carl Powell

We find ourselves, again, on a road too often traveled. Gregory Carl Powell, 69, of Veedersburg, passed away at his residence Wednesday, September 22, 2021.

Our father was our best friend, our hope, our light. To reduce him to words would be a disservice to his legacy, but we think he’d find it humorous that we tried. Greg was born July 27, 1952 in Crawfordsville, Indiana the son of Orville L. and Ruth O. (Weaver) Powell. He is preceded in death by both his parents, his twin brother, and his only son, Galion T. Powell. His two surviving daughters, Chaka-Tela (Powell) Coleman and Suli C. Powell, as well as those whose lives he influenced, are grateful for his unconditional love. He is also survived by his two brothers, William L. (Dodi) Powell, Westminster CO; C. Robert Powell, Lafayette IN; and ten wonderful grandchildren who loved their Papaw beyond words.

He was the smartest person we’ve ever known and told the most magical stories of lands far and near, all through the eyes of a man who feared no culture, met no stranger, and knew no limits. His personality outsized his frame, and he left his signature wit and sarcastic humor with the many people he called friend. He would say we have to live with things the way they are, but we will all miss the man who showed us what it means to experience life uninhibited by fear. Per Greg’s request there will be no public services.
