James Edward McClure, 83, of Veedersburg, IN, passed away 4:49 PM Wednesday September 25, 2024 at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis IN.
James was born December 24, 1940 in Sterling, IN the son of Fred W and Iola Bell (McLaughlin) McClure. He married Glenda J. Sandlin February 20, 1960 in Veedersburg, IN; she preceded him in death December 6, 2005.
He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Theresa J. Lightle on January 4, 2016; two brothers Robert and Frederick; and a sister, Lenora Lindquist.
Surviving family include a daughter, Michelle (Joe) Davis, Crawfordsville; a brother, Dick (Nancy) McClure, Cayuga IN; a companion Jeane Dickerson, Crawfordsville; three grandchildren, Justine Nicole (Mark) Smith, Brian Edward (Kassie) Linzie, Natashia (Derek) Hernandez; eight great-grandchildren, Maddox Smith, Dylan Smith, Lexie Linzie, Kipton Linzie, Stella Linzie, Cobi Brown, Audree Brown, and Grace Hernandez.
James graduated from Veedersburg High School in 1959. After graduation he served his country in the US Army, stationed in Germany working as an aerial photograph interpreter from reconnaissance flights. He was employed at RR Donnelley in Crawfordsville for 41 years, starting as a baler in Department A and working as a proofreader when he retired in 2001.
He was a proud grandpa who enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and gambling on the riverboats. Many Veedersburg residents will remember him as “The Walking Man”, often seen walking around town in the early morning hours.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday September 30, 2024 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg IN. Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon on Monday and continue until the time of service at 2:00 PM. Burial will be at Osborn Prairie Cemetery with military honors provide by American Legion Post #288 and the US Army. Online condolences at www.dickersonfuneralhome.com
