Jerry Lane Frey

January 11, 1938 — February 9, 2020

Jerry Lane Frey, 82, of Veedersburg, entered into the Lord’s presence at 12:37 PM Sunday February 9, 2020 while residing at Ben Hur Nursing Home in Crawfordsville, IN.

Jerry was born January 11, 1938 in Danville, Illinois the son of Charles Franklin and Virginia Clair (Faust) Frey. He married Nancy-Zoe Rennison October 22, 1994 in Veedersburg, IN.

Surviving family include his wife Nancy Frey, Veedersburg; daughter, Christy Frey Chambers, Lafayette; son, James Frey, Cleveland OH; step-son, Ty (Mandi) Lightle, Rosedale IN;step-daughter, Lana (Doug) Walton, Veedersburg; a brother, Tom (Sandee) Frey, Covington; three sisters, Judy (Mario) Caviglia, Spotsylvania VA; Suzy (Denny) Allen, Covington; and Kathy Fulkerson, Bedford IN.

He is preceded in death by an infant daughter, his parents, a brother Richard “Dick” Frey, and two brother in laws.

Jerry graduated from Covington High School in 1956 and continued his education at Valparaiso University. He loved attending church where he was a member at the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene; he was also a member of Gideon’s International, Jaycees and Lions Club in Covington, and the Fountain Lodge #60 F. & A.M. where he had received his 50 Year Award of Gold.

Jerry loved and cherished his grandchildren, Kenli, Bryson, and Bailey; he was a loving and faithful husband, dad, papaw, brother, uncle, son, and a loyal friend to many. He will be remembered as a person with a true servant’s heart; he had a thoughtful and compassionate soul, and took the time to invest himself in other people’s lives; for many years he routinely visited with the residents at the Covington Nursing Home.

He had served his country for two years in the Indiana National Guard. Throughout his life he had been employed at Faust & Frey Hardware in Covington, Inland Container in Newport, and he retired from Steel Grip in Kingman.

He was an avid reader, with a special interest in US History. He enjoyed reading the daily comics; he always had a joke to tell, and would most often start laughing before he could finish telling the joke. He was never known to have said an unkind word about anyone.  

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday February 14, 2020 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Greg McDonald officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday February 13, 2020 at the funeral home with Masonic Service beginning at 8:00 PM. Burial will be at Osborn Prairie Cemetery near Veedersburg. Memorial contributions may be given to Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene, or American Kidney Foundation. Online condolences at www.dickersonfuneralhome.com
