JoAnn (McAllister) Powell, age 75 of Veedersburg, IN went to be with the Lord at 4:33 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at her residence. JoAnn was born in Petersburg, IL on November 13, 1942. She was the daughter of Alfred and Anna Lee (Smith) McAllister. She was raised in Petersburg, IL, and lived in Lafayette, IN, and Fountain County area before moving to Veedersburg in 1982. She attended Petersburg schools. On August 23, 1957 she married Carl W. Powell in Dallas, TX and he survives. JoAnn was a waitress at Mike’s Colonial Parkway, Pat’s Pit Stop, Maple Corner, Highland Court, 76 Truck Stop and was a manager at DTL in Veedersburg. She was also a caregiver and had worked at the Covington County Home. She enjoyed playing the piano and was self taught. She loved visiting with her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids. JoAnn loved cooking and making candy, and peanut brittle was her specialty. She enjoyed her flowers and loved to sing in church. Surviving with her husband, Carl, are, children, Wayne (Marsha) Powell, Gene (Deanna) Powell, Richard (Mary) Powell, all of Veedersburg, IN, Valarie (Terry) England of Danville, IL, and Nancy (Edward) Franklin of Attica, IN; siblings, Bob McAllister (Marilyn) of Verden, IL and Fred McAllister (Dianne) of Springfield, IL; 5 granddaughters and 12 grandsons; ad 48 great-grandchildren. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Roberta Jo “Robbie” Brown, and brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Joyce McAllister. Visitation will be at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg, IN on Monday, June 11, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until service time at 4:00 pm. with Minister Gary Johnson officiating. Interment at Bonebrake Cemetery will be at a later date.
