Julia “Deane” Crane, 96, of Veedersburg, IN passed away 1:06 PM Sunday June 24, 2018 at Ben Hur Health & Rehab. in Crawfordsville. IN. Deane was born January 16, 1922 in Attica, IN the daughter of Glenwood and Elsie (Clawson) Songer. She married Lowell W. Crane November 20, 1941 at his parent’s home in Veedersburg. Surviving family include two sons, Mike (Claudia) Crane, Bloomfield, IN; and Pat (Linda) Crane, Veedersburg, IN; four grandchildren, Jesse (Tracy) Crane, Zachary (Julia) Crane, Julia (Lee) Hoagland, Michelle (Doug) Hubner; and ten great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lowell W. Crane “Cranie”; a sister, Wanda Kester, three brothers, James Songer, Leroy Songer, and Harold “Sparky” Songer. Deane graduated from Veedersburg High School in 1940 where she was a varsity cheerleader. Earlier in her life she had been employed for many years at the Ben Franklin Store in Veedersburg. Recently she had been very proud of the fact that she was the oldest living member of the First Christian Church in Veedersburg; she was also a member of the American Legion Post #288 Ladies Auxiliary. She will be remembered by many for her willingness to help numerous people throughout the community, whether they were sick or simply going through a difficult time in their life. More than anything she loved and adored her family and treasured the time she was able to spend with them. Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Thursday June 28, 2018 at First Christian Church 301 N Mill St Veedersburg with Pastor Garland Pannell officiating.
