Lt. Colonel Robert E Grady

Lt. Colonel Robert E. Grady, 96, formerly of Veedersburg IN passed away at his residence in Mooresville, IN Sunday morning December 8, 2019.

Robert was born April 12, 1923 in Yeddo IN the son of William Orsmas and Ruby Harriett (Smith) Grady. He married Helen Eileen Dice July 20, 1945 in Memphis, TN; she has preceded him in death.

Surviving family include two nephews, Duane (Diana) Dice, Atlanta GA; Don (Karen) Dice, Mooresville IN; several cousins, Gerald Allen “Buzz” (Carol) Grady, Martha Jane Grady Kenner, Mike Thomas, Mark Thomas, Elizabeth Taylor, Rachel Kenner, Samantha Fowler, Meghan Grady Serrano, and Jennifer Grady.

Robert attended grade school in Yeddo and graduated from Veedersburg High School in 1941, he graduated from Purdue University in 1950 with a Bachelors Degree in Education. He was a member of the Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church in Bethesda MD for over 50 years.

He served his country in the United States Air Force for nearly 28 years, having served during WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War as a pilot and qualified navigator of the B17 Bomber and B47 Bomber. He was stationed for many years in Japan and had also lived for many years in Bethesda MD. Towards the end of his military career he served in Special Ops analyzing photographed surveillance. He retired from the Air Force as Lt. Colonel on July 1, 1970.

Funeral service will begin 1:30 PM Saturday December 14, 2019 at Dickerson Funeral Home 303 N Main Veedersburg IN 47987 with Pastor David Inskeep officiating.  Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon Saturday December 14^th at the funeral home and continue until the time of service. Burial with military honors provided by the United States Air Force will follow at Bonebrake Cemetery near Veedersburg. Memorial contributions may be given to the Disabled American Veterans.
