Heaven gained an angel November 16, 2024 as Mary Martin, 79 went to be with the Lord.
Mary was born January 22, 1945 to Eugene and Marjorie Manganello. Being the daughter of an Air Force Sergeant gave their family the opportunity to live in multiple states. One being Alaska where they lived for 7 years, and eventually settling in Georgetown Illinois. Mary attended Georgetown High School and married Stan Piatt in 1961. They eventually moved from Meek’s Station to Kingman, Indiana in 1972.
She was blessed with three children, Patricia “Patti” (Mark) Harlow of Lafayette, Susie (Brad) Tuggle of Covington, and Edward “Shane” (Melissa) Piatt of Crawfordsville. She was later blessed with grandchildren Hope Harlow, Alan (Cory) Patton, Stacey (Ashley) Stein, Alexis (Jared) Cates, Charlie (Nikki) Tuggle, Andrew (Stephanie) Holt, Jessica (Tre) Frampton, Jacob Holt, Jennifer (Jake) Price all of which have given her 23 great grandchildren.
April 14, 1989 Mary remarried to James Martin and added to her family two step children Kim (Craig) Moore of Worthington and Tim (Grace) Martin of Hillsboro and their children Lashonda (Christopher) Kennedy and Mercedes (Zach) Taylor, Jessie Martin, Stephanie Kennedy, Cody, Ammie, Tyra, Isaiah, Annie, Seth, Noah, and Mia Moore all of which gave her an additional 12 great grandchildren.
Mary worked several years at Veedersburg Florist before opening her own shop, Flowers By Mary in Eugene, Indiana. She then worked at Crawfordsville at the Walmart Pharmacy Distribution Center where she eventually retired.
Mary and Jim took many road trips in their RV, visiting family in Texas and just taking back roads to capture the beauty of God’s creation in photos every chance she got. One of her favorite road trips was to Alaska, where she was able to be joined by her family and share all the experiences dating back to her childhood there. She loved being outdoors, taking golf cart rides, and doing anything she could to work alongside Shane. She spent many days at The Haven accompanying Susie with anything and everything. Her earthly treasure was her family. She would spend every opportunity she had attending events for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved her Methodist church families and being involved in church activities.
She is survived by her husband James of Hillsboro, Indiana, her children, and her sister Rose Ellen Ramey of Veedersburg, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Donna Jean Self, grandson Tyler Bridge, and brother-in-laws William Dowers and Duaine Ramey.
Mary‘s legacy that she passed through generations, was to love the Lord, pray fervently and to take “one day at a time, sweet Jesus”. She loved the Lord, and we know as Matthew 25:21 reminds us, she has indeed been a, “well done good and faithful servant.” Mary was a giver and a living angel, but at this time the Lord has chosen her to be at home with her Heavenly Father. Mary loved her family and her church family. She will be very missed. The promise in 2 Corinthians 5:8 “absent from the body and present with the Lord” is our hope and joy, as this life is not our home.
