Nelda N Hollingshead

Nelda N. Hollingshead, 74, of Veedersburg, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 6, 2023.

Nelda was born January 10, 1949 in Rainsville, IN the daughter of Ted and Elizabeth “Babe” (Smith) Byers. She married James O. Hollingshead May 12, 1968 in Veedersburg IN; he preceded her in death September 3, 2018.

She is also preceded in death by four sisters, Mary “Dolly” Stembaugh, Betty Allen, Jo Ann Jeffries, Sharon Rose Byers; seven brothers, William, Junior, Bradley, Clyde, Gary, Larry, and Jim Byers. She is also preceded in death by her dear friend Christy Ballah, and her beloved pet cat, Miss Kitty. Surviving is her older sister, Lynora “Kay” Simonton of Veedersburg. 

Surviving family includes three daughters, Elizabeth “Beth”  V. (James) Baker, Veedersburg;  Adeana (Scott) Dale, Veedersburg;  Jamie Kenworthy (Darin Reynolds), Attica; three grandchildren, Kirsten (Brian) Sutherlin, Stefaney (Abe) Sowers, Cameron James Dale (Taylor Purkey); a great-granddaughter, Thea Ann Sutherlin; and a great-grandson on the way. Also surviving are her life-long friends Clara Kidwell and Lisa Ligocki. 

Nelda graduated from Veedersburg High School in 1967. Nelda devoted her life to her kids and grandkids. She loved cooking for her family. Nelda could often be found watching her grandkids sporting events. She retired in 2013 from West Central Community Corrections after several years of employment. After retiring, she spent most of her time riding around town, gambling, dancing at Wallace, and visiting her friends and family. Nelda enjoyed traveling any chance she got, specifically to South Haven, MI where she spent time with her grandparents as a child. She was a lifelong member of Sterling Christian Church.  

Funeral service is 11:00 AM Friday June 9, 2023 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Visitation is 6:00 – 9:00 PM Thursday June 8, 2023 at Dickerson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Attica IN. Online condolences at www.dickersonfuneralhome.com
