Phyllis Jane Cade

Phyllis Jane Cade, 88, formerly of Veedersburg, passed away 11:48 AM Tuesday April 3, 2018 at Sugar Grove Assisted Living in Plainfield, Indiana. Mrs. Cade was born August 23, 1929 in West Mansfield, Ohio the daughter of Frank and Sarah Jane (Skidmore) Kerns. As a young lady teaching in a one room school house in Ohio she met fellow teacher David R. Cade; they were married May 30, 1953 in West Mansfield and moved to Veedersburg, IN in 1956.  Phyllis graduated from both High School and Bowling Green University in Ohio. She started the first Kindergarten class in Veedersburg in 1960, she also taught Kindergarten in Richland Township for many years and helped her husband operate the Cade Insurance Office in Veedersburg. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Veedersburg, where she had served as a Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School Teacher for many years. She had also been a member of the Fountain County Home Ec. Club, Christian Women’s Fellowship, and she had enjoyed attending KIT Club. Phyllis enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S., on cruise ships, and had taken several trips to Europe. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, and spending time with her family. She was a compassionate person who enjoyed being around children, and was always willing to take the time to visit with the sick and elderly. Surviving family include two daughters, Susan (Bill) Reid, Plainfield IN; Sarah (Tom) Brady, Chesterton IN; four grandchildren, Will Reid, Rachael Reid, Holly (Ricky) Campos, and Claire Brady. She is preceded in death by her husband, and a brother, Rev. David S. Kerns. Funeral service is 11:00 AM Saturday April 7, 2018 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday and continue until the time of service. Burial will be at Rockfield Cemetery, Veedersburg IN. Memorial Contributions may be given to Rockfield Cemetery.
