William Dean McCann

William Dean “Bill” McCann, 91, of Veedersburg and formerly of Stone Bluff IN, passed away 12:10 AM Sunday September 2, 2018 at Williamsport Nursing and Rehab in Williamsport IN. Bill was born February 7, 1927 in Caney, Kansas the son of Harold Edward and Grace Pauline (Taylor) McCann. He married his wife of 55 years Ruth Harrison March 1, 1948 in Newport, IN; she preceded him in death August 19, 2003. He is also preceded in death by a twin sister, Betty Townley, and two brothers, John McCann and Alvin McCann. Surviving family include three sons, Larry (Deb) McCann, Pittsburg PA; Kenneth (Gwen) McCann, Ft Myers FL; Roger (Sue) McCann, Veedersburg; seven grandchildren, Rachel (Joe) Vogel, Jeff (Michelle) McCann, Gina (Thomas) Sanborn, Christy (Kyle) Spewock, Ryan (Tory) McCann, Kelly (Adrian) Casanova, Caleb (Dara) McCann; and ten great-grandchildren. Bill graduated from Kingman High School in 1945; he was able to graduate high school early and join the US Army where he served his country as a Military Policeman during WWII stationed in Japan. After returning home and marrying Ruth, he had farmed for many years; while at the same time (for over 40 years) he worked at Harrison Steel in Attica as a blacksmith. He was a member of Sterling Christian Church where he had served on the church board as a trustee. For many years he had been very active in the Lions Club, he was also a member of the American Legion in Kingman. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday September 10, 2018 at Dickerson Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM Monday and continue until the time of service. Burial will be at Mt Hope Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post #288.
