Duaine Addison Ramey passed away March 6, 2022 at Carle Foundation Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born December 21, 1938 in Clinton County, Indiana to James Ramey and Nina Denton Ramey Gray.
Duaine graduated from Perrysville High School May 17, 1957. He was first employed at Harrison Steel Foundry in Attica, Indiana prior to his enlisting in the United States Navy. He served on the U.S.S. Enterprise, the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier in the U.S. Navy. After completing his service in the Navy, he was employed at TeePak in Danville, Illinois where he worked until his retirement.
Duaine was married to Ellen Manganello of Georgetown, Illinois on June 8, 1973 in Danville, Illinois. They resided in Georgetown until 1998 when they moved to the family farm in Veedersburg, Indiana.
Duaine loved to fish and hunt, especially coon hunting with his friends. He enjoyed training his “Walkers” to accompany him on the hunts. He also enjoyed hunting for mushrooms, especially “morels.” Duaine looked forward to visiting with friends and pals at the local coffee shop, listening in on the conversation. He collected knives and enjoyed sharing his hobby through the giving of gifts to his family. He also enjoyed caring for his many cats, especially “Baby”.
Duaine was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Melony Marie Ramey Watkins.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ellen; one daughter, Margo Ramey Frey and her husband John of Hutchison, KS; one son, Scott DeWeese and his wife Tracy of St. Joseph, IL; six grandchildren: Kari (Nick) Magana , Matthew (Brittany) Fox, Mark (Ginny) Mock, Logan DeWeese, Alissa DeWeese, and Colton DeWeese; eight great-grandchildren: Emma, Elijah and Ethaniel Magana, Israel, Ezekiel, Hosea and Eden Mock and Knute Fox. Two brothers, James F (Deanna) Ramey; and Robert (Judith) Ramey.
Funeral service 1:00 PM Saturday March 12, 2022 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor John Frey officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home and continue until the time of service at 1:00. Burial at Forest Park Cemetery in Georgetown, IL with military honors provided by American Legion Post #288 and the US Navy.
